Do You Truly Understand How to Use Social Media?

A lot of people have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, and the like – but just because you have these accounts doesn’t mean that you are using them correctly. If you want to be sure to get the most out of your online social presence, then keep reading. Some of you may be surprised.

If I Follow You, You Will Follow Me

Some people seem to think that just because you follow somebody else that they are going to follow you. In actuality, there is no “following” etiquette on social media. In fact, pay close enough attention and you will see some people will follow you, and then later un-follow you just to lure you in to liking their page or account.

If you see someone who has a close balance in the number of people they follow and the number of people following them, then chances are this person believes in the “follow for follow” concept, but if you want quality followers, you need to post quality items.

Build trust and relationships online by interacting, commenting, finding similar interests, and so on. Basically, treat social media like you are trying to mingle at a party while making a good impression and you’ll start getting quality followers.

Guys! Guys! Check Out My Listing! Again…

Stop doing this. It’s okay to post about your new listing, but don’t put it on blast constantly. This is a great way to lose followers and interest. You need to be well rounded and interesting, not always trying to sell people things.

After reading this article, go to the account of someone who only talks about their listings, chances are there are barely any likes or comments on these. Why? Because that’s all they ever talk about. It gets old. Then look at an agent who posts varied, entertaining statuses. You’ll see the difference in interaction quite clearly.

Only Post Your Own Content, Then Move Along

Wrong again. You should share things that friends have shared if you find it relevant and interesting. Then they will be more likely to share your posts as well. This creates more social interaction, and, isn’t that the point?
